Harper pants-Designer Stitch pattern

As much as I like dresses and skirts, pants are always easy, and comfortable pants are even better. Making my own gives me the chance to make them comfortable, even if I am making jeans. 

In this case, I made no jeans but Super Comfortable ponte knit  pants. The Harper pants from Designer Stitch.

The Harper Pants pattern offers a number of styling options.

– Standard Leg with optional front pin tuck.

– Faux side front pockets.

– Jeans style functional pockets.

All of the above styles are completed with

– an elastic waistband

– faux stitch fly.

– faux back welt pockets

– a choice of straight leg or slim leg widths and optional belt loops.

I made size 2 . I lowered the front rise by 2cm and the back rise by 3.5cm. Here, on the Designer Stitch blog is a post about the right way to adjust the rise of your pants. The stretch of your fabric is the key in this pattern.

Heavyweight Ponte De Roma fabrics are BEST for the Harper Pants with at least 40%

4-way stretch.  Approx fibre content of: 70% rayon, 25% nylon, 5% Elastane

or 70% Polyester, 25% Rayon, 5% Elastane

(Heavy Weight Fabric minimum 340 gsm (10 – 12 ozs)

I made my muslin in a much softer fabric with lesser vertical stretch not thinking further that my final fabric will have much more vertical stretch... I could have shortened the pattern a bit more to get the waist a bit lower but I had only 1.5m from this black ponte so I could not make my test garment out of the same fabric. I think is very important to use for your test garment, fabric with the same stretch percentage as your final fabric.

I made the slim leg and the faux slant pockets. In the back are two faux welt pockets. The instructions on these are perfect, it went very easy( on the Designer Stitch blog there is also a tutorial with pictures for this). Also, I shortened the pants by 5cm.

I would not wear my blouse tucked in:)) but this was better than pulling my blouse up to show the details  :)). The top in this pictures is another Designer Stitch pattern, one of my all-time favorites, the Bridget blouse, 

I love how these pants are looking like tailored pants but having the comfort of yoga pants. The pattern is for a limited time on sale.

Dress McCalls M7469 Nicole Miller

This pattern from Nicole Miller for Mccalls ( M7469 )  was love at first sight for me. I loved all the seams in the front, the pockets, the fact that you can make it in a cozy knit . This is my wearable muslin because in the next one I will alter the neckline , bateau neckline is not my favorite in the cold times , also an alteration for narrow shoulders .

I did not expect that the back was without any shaping...in the drawings there are two lines on the back that made me think that there where two darts but in the model picture you can see that the back is not shaped... I did miss that one :) . I added two darts on my dress, and I am very happy how it is now. Also I took 3 cm from the CB at the neckline as it was really gaping . Also I have skipped the zipper as it is really easy to get in and out of this dress .

I made a size 12 , the chart was putting me on size 14 for the bust and 12 the rest but I made a straight 12 and I think the fit is great .The pattern calls for medium stretch fabric and the white/black it is a medium stretch jacquard knit and the black contrast is  ponti knit. No alterations on the sleeve length. . 

I just love the pockets in this dress!!  

I  made the dress 3 cm shorter than the pattern  and did not really follow the instructions on how to hem the slit. I made mitered corners instead, very neat I think :).

I am really happy with this pattern ! I have all my pattern pieces altered and ready to cut a new dress. It is a very easy pattern, the instructions are great and without the zipper on the back it makes a very fast sewing .

Lora Jurk uit La Maison Victor sep-okt 2015

Toen La Maison Victor sep-okt uit kwam heb ik het in de winkel gekeken en niet gekocht , maar een tijdje daarna zag ik op Sancho  een rode versie van de Lora jurk. Zo ontzettend leuk, heb ik meteen die tijdschrift besteld en ook stof gekocht.

Mijn ervaring met LMV was niet best , ik heb een keer alleen de Sunny pants (super populair patroon )gemaakt en  ik weet het niet , ik vond het een beetje omslachtig die patroon uit te halen, en qua pasvorm voor mij was ook niet een succes.

Maar ik vond het jurkje van JoJanne zo mooi dus ik dacht , nou nog een keer proberen maar. Nou, die patroonbladen vind ik nog steeds vreselijk, en terwijl mijn patroon papier goed doorzichtig is,  het was niet te doen, groen op groen en al die lijntjes, vreselijk. Ik heb me dan herinnerd dat ik een keer toen ik iets in de oven moest bakken zag ik dat mijn bakpapier heel doorzichtig was en dat heb ik nu gebruikt, perfect voor de LMV patronen ( papier van het merk Dumil ).

Qua maat heb ik uiteindelijk maat 38 voor de bovenlichaam genomen met  36 in de taille en voor de rok gedeelte 36 in de taille en 34 heupen.

Ik heb de mouwen langer gemaakten ook de zakken dieper , mijn hand kon maar de helt in de zak .
Ik ben een beetje verbaast dat het zo goed past , vooral de bovenkant . Alleen de halslijn achter vind ik niet zo fijn, misschien ga ik dat iets  verlagen bij de volgende jurk.

Het is heel makkelijk te maken, echt makkelijk. Bij knippen duurde even omdat ik het in een laag heb geknipt , ik wilde dat de print een beetje doorliep , vooral middenvoor en achter. Ik ben best tevreden hoe het geworden is. In de instructie staat dat je moet alleen de ingang van de zakken verstevigen , ik heb dat gedaan maar ook bij de rits heb ik twee strookjes versteviging gedaan.

Ook heb ik de mouwen net als bij een tshirt genaaid ( schoudernaaden , mouwen in en daarna de zijnaden /mouwnaden dicht). Bijna alles heb ik met de locker genaaid , alleen de rits en halslijn met de naaimachine en de zomen met de hand.

De stof is punta di Roma met flock print , heel fijn om mee te werken.

Ik ben blij dat ik deze  gemaakt heb, ik ben heel tevreden mee en ik zal zeker meer van maken.
