La Paz jacket

I have so many projects on my "sew "list but patterns like this are pushing the rest of them at the back of that list. This is the latest pattern, the La Paz jacket, tested for  Itch to stitch. It is designed to be sewn in a structured knit fabric and that makes it really comfortable. I made mine in a leather look ponti with no vertical stretch and just a bit of horizontal stretch. I made the jacket in size 4 cup C; that is another nice thing about this pattern, it comes with cup sizing ( A, B, C, D and DD)

The pattern has a lot of nice features, front and back princess seams, two pieces sleeves with rounded corner vents and button closures, double-welt pockets with flaps. The jacket is unlined and you have the option to use Hong Kong seam finish. Well, this last thing, the Hong Kong treatment, I never did that on a jacket, I always make lined jackets/coats. This is a really nice and neat way to finish the seams on any project but boy, it does take a lot of time, really, is like is never ending. But is very pretty! On the Itch to Stitch blog is a tutorial about the Hong Kong finish .

First I want to say that I only apply for testing patterns that I like and I know will fit my style. One of the things I like is that having that deadline I know I have a limited time to finish that project so if I was   to make this, with the bias finishing and everything outside of the test, was a 2 weeks project but like this, it was one week working 2 hours every evening...approximately .

I can`t remember when I did a double welt pocket for the last time, with a flap, never. But these ones were so easy and that was one of those things I was most scared about. Great instructions there, really easy to follow.

This is not a difficult project, but if you are making the Hong Kong finish, be ready to take your time. I must be honest and say the I bought a fuchsia ponti and lining to make a new La Paz, but lined, I just can`t take any more bias binding. I think I can make it in two days, only to take my revenge on that bias binding thing!

So another successful project for me. I think that this pattern, even if it is looking pretty complicated is actually not so difficult to make, the instructions are very good and easy to follow, it has the cup sizing and that makes it really easy to fit

Shiva Girls jacket from Farbenmix

When I asked Lisa what kind of jacket she wants , she answered immediately with a few very clear wishes. It must have a hood, no buttons but an easy zipper and big pockets. And armed with this I started to search a pattern. Crazy enough I just could not find anything in all my patterns. After some internet searching I found this one, Shiva from Farbenmix.

This pattern has really all of the details she want. And if you see on the Frabenmix page all the jackets made from this pattern you will be amazed . I made it really simple , but you can work with piping on all those seams, with color blocking , fabric combinations and so on .

The fabric was her choice , I tried to convince her to take something else but she was really strong in her choice so nothing to do about it. Ordered bij  Driessen stoffen , the next day was already here so that was great. I took 2m and I had enough to make a pair of pull on Eleonore jeans from Jalie also.

Hood detail. 

Lining and satin lining for the sleeves ...I tried a little quilting ....something for the sleeves , and I am pretty happy with the results. 

So jacket , done! :) 

Clare Coat by Close Case Files

Deze is al maanden klaar en ook heel veel gedragen . Ik heb geluk gehad om mee te mogen doen als tester voor Heather Lou van Close Case Files Patterns , geluk zeg ik , omdat anders had ik nooit zo een model genaaid, zo een wijd jasje was niet op mijn lijstje. Maar ik vind hem zo lekker dragen , ik wil heel graag nog een maken alleen de stof keuze maken :).

De jas zelf is heel snel in elkaar te zetten, de instructies zijn heel duidelijk maar het is sowieso een makkelijk model . Ik heb maat 10 gemaakt , versie B, in de versie die nu te koop is de mouwen zijn een klein beetje minder wijd , ik heb een proefmodel gemaakt met de nieuwe mouwen en het ziet er nog beter uit. In de buiten foto`s ziet er een beetje strak aan de bovenkant, maar het is zeker niet zo, tja, mijn fotograaf had ook niet zo veel zin in :).

Voor de voering heb ik een leuk satijn gebruikt met een randmotief , helaas heb ik niet genoeg gehad om overal het motief door te laten lopen.

Heather Lou zelf heeft twee super leuke versies gemaakt. Een super super mooie Versie A in een prachtige kleur en een versie B in camel .

Ik heb echte nachtmerries gehad van deze jas, nou meer van de instructies. 


Op de patroonblad staat voering lijn voor model 29 maar deze was echt te smal voor de linker voorpand, nou ja er waren zo veel dingen die ik niet begrijp in die instructies ,ik ben blij dat het af is.

 De voering aan de linker kant was een dikke 4 cm te smal ,daarom die extra naad die te zien is, omdat ik geen extra stof had voor en hele voorpand heb ik het echt uit een klein stukje eruit gehaald om ook de print een beetje door te laten lopen.

Aan het eind , was ik helemaal de weg kwijt met de instructies. Ik kan het nog steeds niet begrijpen hoe naaien ze de voering aan de jas.

Maar na 2 dagen van denken en denken heb ik het toch op mijn eigen manier afgewerkt en ik ben best tevreden.

Bij al mijn jassen gebruik ik een methode zoals deze , het geeft een schone afwerking en ik laat altijd een stukje open in een van de voering mouwen , niet in de zijnaad zoals Ottobre adviseert.

  

Ik heb maat 116 gemaakt maar de mouwen zijn 1 cm ingekort. Ik heb die 1 cm niet afgeknipt maar gewoon de zoom breder gemaakt en genaaid aan de voering met 1 cm extra naadwaarde .

Ook heb ik schoudervullingen en snorren gemaakt , niet te dik maar om toch een beetje ondersteuning te geven , ik vind het resultaat heel mooi, zonder, vond ik het zo een zielig beeld  .

Het is een dun jasje, Lisa houd niet van dik, maar ik denk dat ik ga wel zo een klein vestje om bij te doen als het nodig is. Dikke jas heeft ze dus dat is ook geen probleem. 

Lisa is heel blij mee vooral omdat de stof een lurex draadje heeft en ze is ook heel blij met die capuchon .
