Bright colors outfit for Lisa, Clara legging and a cool tank top

Today is the 1st of June, Children's` Day,  and just by coincidence I am going to share a project, actually, there are two, made for Lisa.
While I love making the video reviews and presentations of my projects on my YouTube channel I find it sometimes challenging to get everyone quiet during the day to get a decent video without being interrupted  and in the night when all are still the light is bad, so I decided that maybe blogging sometimes get faster and if you are not there to read at least for my own reference :))

Back to the outfit :). The patterns used for these two garments are the Clara leggings from Jalie patterns and the top is from the magazine B-trendy, issue 12.

Clara legging and tank top

These leggings pattern is amazing, I made it like 20 times by now. Since it's release in the summer of 2018 I think, I am making them twice a year for Lisa, a few for summer, and than later in the year a few for fall/winter days.
Lisa has a longer torso so her RTW pants/leggings are always too short at the upper part and creeping down her bum when she sits or plays so I gave up buying and enjoy making the Claras in fun fabrics every time. The cool part about this pattern is that it comes in so many sizes so I am good forever  :)). I even have traced a pair for myself to try and see.

These days I am making them without the gusset but with the pattern modified to accommodate that gusset like Jalie has it on the blog. It makes this so fast to sew! There is then actually only one pattern piece cut it on the fold, sew the CB seam, inside leg seam, and apply elastic at the waist, hem and I am done!

This time I made a size J, which is a bit lose on the legs but I guess is fine, Lisa is very happy with the fit.

The fabric is from Driessenstoffen.nl is one of their "by Lisan" fabrics, a very nice quality cotton jersey that also holds very nice on wash and drying.

The leggings are entirely made with the serger and only the hem and the final step on attaching the elastic are done with a zig-zag stitch on the sewing machine.

I had 1m of this fabric and in the past, I could take two leggings out of 1m but those times are gone :) so I had to do something with the rest of the fabric, I didn`t want it in the scrap box as it was too nice to stay there. I looked up in my magazines for a little top and so I found this little gem.

A really fun tank top with an open back and a bow-look in the back. It was perfect it was requiring only a bit of fabric but of course for me pattern matching or stuff like that it was out of the discussion! I also didn`t have enough fabric for the front-facing, which I found a bit odd anyway, I think a binding of the neckline it was enough.
But again because of fabric shortage, even the bindings were not easy to get out of those scraps. After cutting a too narrow piece and attaching to the neckline and looking like crap and did that two times!!!! I was ready to throw it in the bin and forget about it, but again the fabric was too much fun to do that :)). So I cut a 2-inch wide piece on the length of the fabric and attached it to the front, wrap it to the inside and stitched in the ditch and I was planning to cut off the excess but that rolled so nice to the outside and it formed such a nice edge that I decided to let it in place, and now I love it !! I will keep that in mind to apply it on a top for myself.

For construction, I used the serger, the sewing machine, and the cover stitch machine.
I have the coverstitch , a Janome 1000 CPX for  a few years now and in the last few months, I used it more than in all these years. I always looked at videos and read posts about settings but actually only after I started just making samples and adjusting the tension to get the best result ( and not put right needle tension on 4 , left needle on 3 and so on ) I was amazed that actually, this machine works great! To be honest I sew this jersey with a tension of 9 and 7 for the needles and almost 1 on the looper....well never tried that before and always tried around 3 or 4 tension, never worked!

There is no need to say that this little lady is very happy with her outfit, calling it it the fan top as it has a lot of ventilation in the back :)).
Next, I have for her two cool jersey panels to make as summer dresses and for me, I have some Sew Over It goodies in the work. Those will come soon on my YouTube Channel, including toiles and fitting adjustments, don't forget to subscribe there and put your notifications on! If you missed my latest post there, I shared my modified paper bag waist pants made with Thread Count pattern TC2002 and a sneak peek on my blue wool Chaval coat and a new sparkly Chelsea Cardigan from Designer Stitch. Happy sewing and take care ! xx Camelia

Nadinchen Tunic and Dress Free pattern from Lachwichtel

When I have no idea what to sew for myself ....or I have too many ideas and can`t decide :) I just make something for my little girl. This time I saw on a Facebook group this super cute tunic/dress. It is a pattern from a couple of years ago, free, from a German designer.

For the video review, you can go here

The name is Nadinchen Reloaded and it has an option for a hood and a big collar and pockets. The sizes are 62/68-158/164 . It gives a great possibility for color blocking and if you try a Google search you will find a sea of inspiration, really great ones made in different prints/colors, trims and so on.

But me, being me and I think Lisa is a litlle bit like me :) she was not in bright colors or flowers ( not that I have that in my stash anyway and I try to avoid buying more fabric)  we decided to use this gold foil print Ponti knit with a black Ponti accent for the first try. I also could not decide which size to make, I just can`t find the size chart! The sizes are on the pattern pieces but I can`t find the chart, so I did a bit of measuring and decided on 146/152 for this version. For the sleeve, I used the 146/152 sleeve and from that I cut 5cm off and added the cuffs 4cm wide ( doubled of course so that makes the cuff piece 8cm wide plus SA)

Very important! The seam allowance is not included!

The pattern instructions are in German but with a lot of pictures for each step and the pattern is really pretty easy, but very important is to know that the seam allowance (SA) is not included. To add mine I use some magnets on my scissors and cut my pieces. You can also measure with a seam gauge and mark it with chalk or add it on the paper pieces first.
Having no SA  does has its benefits as I could measure the pattern much better and easier to get the idea for the fit.

I think this size is a bit too big for Lisa but she will grow ( :)) and that is ok. I added also the pockets but, because it is a bit too long on her the pockets are of course way to low....she found it funny to have her pockets almost to the knees :)). With that in mind, I made another version but I wanted a tunic, smaller size 134/140 ( that is actually also her RTW size) and no pockets and no band at the hem.

This is made in a thick knit fabric and is perfect for the cold weather. You can clearly see the difference in one size on this pattern. I only kept the sleeve length from the other size.

This is a very easy pattern and also very fast to sew. This tunic is entirely made on the serger so it was very fast finished.

Taking pictures of Lisa wearing the things I am making for her is a challenge...she is the sweetest but I need my patience :)), most of the pictures are like this! :)) She is happy with this two makes, and the black/gold dress was her choice to wear at the Christmas celebration at school...that means she loves it :))

PS: the pattern is free but on her website, there is a PayPal button where you can "buy a cup of tea"  to support her work. I made the pattern first and because I am happy with the pattern I did support her :)

Happy sewing!

Knippie dress

This is the kind of dress I would like to make for myself and wear all day!Super comfortable with pockets and suitable for cozy warm knit fabrics. But this time the dress is for Lisa :) !

**********

The pattern is from Knippie Magazine 5/2016, Dress 119. I made size 134 with the length of 146. The original is very short and I wanted to make it a little longer for warmth. Lisa fits in their 128 size in the size chart but after I measured the pattern pieces I realized that 134 fits her perfect.
The pattern comes with facings to finish the neck but I used a strip of the fabric folded in half ( just a bit smaller than the circumference of the neck hole on the dress ) and I sew that using my serger.

**********

Very easy to make, I think this can be done in a half hour! For me took a lot much longer because I had the brilliant idea to use my coverstitch to add a bit of interest at the seams. That is a great detail but in my case, my machine did skip a few stitches and I had to undo some seams and boy, that took a lot of time! At a moment I was so done with the whole unpicking that I could not bear to take anything out again! So, I had the same print fabric in another color and I made a small applique to cover the mistake. I hate that machine!!!

**********

I love the fabric! It is french terry from Driessenstofen  , beautiful quality after a few times washing it is still beautiful. Very soft and comfortable, of course, perfect for children's clothes.

**********

Lisa is really happy with her dress and me too with the pattern.

**********

Passenger Trench Coat for girls -Ottobre Magazine 1/2013

I love this pattern! I wish there was something like this for adults , but until then I will make more for my daughter. This is the Passenger trench from Ottobre Magazine ( 1/2013) . I made it in 2015 in a beautiful cotton stretch print in size 110 and now  I decided on size 128 but I think a size smaller it would have been also ok, this is a little big in the shoulders but I know she is growing so fast so it is fine.

This is the first Passenger, can`t believe that this is 2 years ago!

This is a straight size 128 with the only adjustment for the sleeve length, I shortened the pattern by 1.5 cm . Also, I interfaced the front panel of the jacket, in the instructions is the facing that gets interfaced only. Also, I cut the undercollar on the bias to get a better roll.

I had a hard time deciding on the buttons for this, but I think these ones are perfect. The color is just enough to pop and with the little silver/gray are not boring. Sewing wise, everything went pretty smooth. I can`t understand the Ottobre instructions always, most of the time actually. But it is a jacket and after you make a few it is like sewing a t-shirt . The fabrics are also easy to handle and press, so no problems.

And talking about boring, the lining is for sure not boring! I told her that she can choose the lining, I know she is crazy about busy, shiny fabrics so there you have it :))).

I am so pleased with this small trench, I wish I could wear a print trench...:)) Lisa is very happy with it and that makes me even happier.

Shiva Girls jacket from Farbenmix

When I asked Lisa what kind of jacket she wants , she answered immediately with a few very clear wishes. It must have a hood, no buttons but an easy zipper and big pockets. And armed with this I started to search a pattern. Crazy enough I just could not find anything in all my patterns. After some internet searching I found this one, Shiva from Farbenmix.

This pattern has really all of the details she want. And if you see on the Frabenmix page all the jackets made from this pattern you will be amazed . I made it really simple , but you can work with piping on all those seams, with color blocking , fabric combinations and so on .

The fabric was her choice , I tried to convince her to take something else but she was really strong in her choice so nothing to do about it. Ordered bij  Driessen stoffen , the next day was already here so that was great. I took 2m and I had enough to make a pair of pull on Eleonore jeans from Jalie also.

Hood detail.

Lining and satin lining for the sleeves ...I tried a little quilting ....something for the sleeves , and I am pretty happy with the results.

So jacket , done! :)

The Girls Uptown/Downtown dress

This is the Uptown/Downtown dress pattern from Sew straight&gather. I bought the pattern a while ago but didn't get the chance to make it. I even have the ladies version, but that needs to wait a little bit more.

Very easy to make, on the serger is really a matter of a few minutes .For both dresses I used  the same kind of fabric, one way stretch jersey .

There are a lot of variations included in the pattern ,even for a maxi dress that Lisa wanted so bad , but I don`t think that that will be very handy to wear at school so I made the knee length. The dress has pockets also.I made the blue one with pockets and the pink one  without  .

Size 6 with length 7 years. The blue dress is made without any changes to the pattern but I think because of my fabric choice that did not have enough stretch, the sleeves were a little too tight and the armhole to low. So for the pink dress, I added 1cm to the wide of the sleeve and lowered the armhole with 0.5cm.

Lisa is very happy with both dresses and she really loves the big cowl!

Little girls bomber jacket Knippie 3/2016

---------------------------------
This jacket was not planned but Lisa had only one summer jacket and if that was to be washed then she did not have other choices.

---------------------------

This pattern is from the last Knippie Magazine 3/2016, jacket 09, sizes 50-176 in the magazine but online at Knippie.nl you can buy this in baby, toddlers or teenage sizes . I made it in size 110. Lisa wears size 116 RTW but after a little measuring I decided to make a size smaller and it fits perfect.

----------------------------
I did a little print matching on the centerfront and the princess lines/pockets .

-----------------------------
This pattern is designed without  a lining so I made that myself and lined the whole thing.

En de achterkant.
-------------
And the back.

---------------------
Very easy and fast project. Really nice pattern ,definitely will make more of this.

Bomber Jacket B1462 B-inspired Magazine

--------------------------
Lisa had a bomber jacket like this ,from H&M and it was her favorite, but now it is really to smal, like 2 sizes, too short and the pockets also too small, so I thought ; well I can make a new one. On the FB group from the  dutch sewing  forum Sancho I asked for inspiration for a pattern and Aline  came with this pattern , B- inspired Magazine Edition 3

---------------------------
I've made size 116, this pattern comes in sizes 104-176cm . I added a little more fullness in the front and back panel and made the cuffs and bottom piece out of the fashion fabric and not from the ribbing.

-----------------------
This pattern comes without pockets but Lisa wanted pockets so  I used the information from the Craftsy class "One pattern , many looks: Pants" ( affiliate) . So easy to make , I am really happy with the results.

Het jasje is gevoerd .
------------
The jacket is fully lined.

---------------------------
I know that the stripes are not perfectly aligned when the zipper is closed but I can only hope that the other kids at school will not see that, hahaha. Next time I will do better  .
Lisa is really happy with her new jacket , she said that it is very chic :)
